While the GM and Ford cars all used carburetors, Chrysler delved into the world of combining multiport fuel injection and turbocharging for the first time. We still hear you saying “so what” but, at the time, the Dodge Daytona Turbo Z cars were really high tech for the time.
This video from This Old Car delves into a later model Daytona, a name that Dodge tried to revive, with some success in the mid-eighties. (Editor note: we had a 1985 Daytona, but without the turbo. Still a fun car!). Check it out.
The 1960s was an era of truly remarkable vehicles. Enthusiasts will think fondly of the likes of the Ford Mustang, Pontiac GTO, and Chevrolet's own Camaro — all formidable muscle cars. "Big is better" wasn't the only philosophy, though, as compact cars like the Plymouth Valiant were also becoming a big deal. The Corvair eventually became one of the best-known entries in the compact arena, though not always for very flattering reasons.
